European Literature Night 2026: 12 Countries and Their Stories

Why We Recommend it

European Literature Night returns for its third edition on 27 February, inviting audiences to explore voices through live readings across Central and Sheung Wan.

Description

On 27 February, European Literature Night will return for its third edition, transforming Central and Sheung Wan into a walking festival of words. Part of the Hong Kong International Literary Festival, it celebrates contemporary European writing and 12 countries — spotlighting storytelling’s power to connect cultures through voices like Hungarian writer and 2025 Nobel laureate László Krasznahorkai’s Satantango and Italian author Giulia Caminito’s The Lake’s Water is Never Sweet.

The event is organised by the EUNIC Hong Kong Cluster — comprising various organisations such as the Consulate General of Czechia in Hong Kong, Goethe-Institut, Alliance Française and Italian Cultural Institute — in collaboration with Czech Centres, EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao, and others. Local partners include Zolima CityMag, Bookazine, the Hong Kong International Literary Festival and the venue partners.

On the night, from 18:00 to 22:40, prominent Hong Kong personalities will present 11 excerpt performances at 30-minute intervals across 10 venues. Audiences can chart their own literary path using a dedicated map.
