Sin Wah Lai’s Hong Kong Homecoming

Why We Recommend it

Anchoring the Presence, a solo exhibition by Hong Kong artist Sin Wah Lai, explores how everyday life can serve as an anchor in the present moment through rituals like eating and walking.

Description

Sin Wah Lai’s solo exhibition Anchoring the Presence offers a thoughtful reflection on anchoring ourselves in the present moment through everyday life. After living in several places overseas, Lai has returned to Hong Kong, describing this period in her life as the “housewarming of an old home,” symbolising the process of settling into both physical and emotional spaces.

At the core of the exhibition are everyday rituals such as eating and walking. Lai transforms these simple acts into installations, images, and performances that explore how we find resilience and connection in the present moment. Objects like a basket of washed fruit, shared meals, worn trainers, and revisited dreams become symbols of grounding and flow.

Co-curated by Siu Tung (Venus Lau) and Sally Leung, Anchoring the Presence highlights the intimate and mundane aspects of everyday life as sources of strength during times of crisis. The exhibition invites viewers to pause, nourish their inner selves, and move with life’s rhythms, offering a quiet yet powerful meditation on presence and anchoring.
