Metamorphosis: Frances de Saint Germain’s Debut Photo Show

Growing up in London and Paris, Hong Kong–based photographer Frances de Saint Germain held her first solo exhibition, Metamorphosis, at EastPro Gallery. Presented by Up & Up Art, the exhibition showcases de Saint Germain’s photographs of boats undergoing maintenance in Hong Kong since 2022.

The artist has developed a passion for uncovering the surprising in the mundane and the weird in the ordinary, transforming everyday objects into striking, beautiful images. Her lens reveals the hidden sanctuaries of vessels lifted from the water and exposed to human hands peeling at their sea-worn surfaces. Through subtle manipulations of colour, contrast and composition, these fragments shift toward abstraction — evoking unfamiliar landscapes of vastness, depth and the unknown.
