Indie Film Fest: New Documentary on Hong Kong-based Italian Activist Priest Franco Mella

Why We Recommend it

Hong Kong filmmaker Kong King-chu’s documentary on Italian Roman Catholic priest and Maoist social activist Franco Mella, will be screened at the Hong Kong Arts Centre as a part of recurrent indie film screening program Independently Yours.

Description

Franco Mella (Hong Kong, 2018) zooms in on the life and times of Father Franco Mella, a Milan-born priest who has been living in Asia for more than four decades.

Mella, who first came to Hong Kong in 1974, has dedicated his life fighting for the rights of the disadvantaged in both Hong Kong and mainland China, including the Yau Ma Tei boat people and their Mainland wives in the 1970s and 1980s, and more recently, the Yellow Umbrella movement.

Director Kong King-chu and Father Franco Mella will meet the audience for a post-screening Q&A session.
