Celebrating the French Language and Francophone Cultures

Why We Recommend it

Dive into a month-long francophone cultural festival featuring films, music and more, celebrating French-speaking women and highlighting the diversity of Belgium, France, Switzerland and Canada.

Description

Co-organised by the Consulates of France, Belgium, Switzerland and Canada in Hong Kong as well as the Alliance Française and bookshop Parenthèses, the Francophonie Festival 2025 offers a rich lineup of films, music and many more cultural events that is open to all. This year’s theme, “La Francophonie avec Elles” (The Francophonie With Them), means numerous events will showcase French-speaking women. Moreover, as the Francophonie highlights a different country each year and in this year’s edition, Switzerland is leading the festival and selected as the guest of honour.

Through the Francophonie Film Festival’s diverse cinematic offerings, there will be depictions of different female protagonists. At the Fringe Club, enjoy screenings of films such as Les Paradis de Diane from Switzerland, a poignant exploration of a woman’s journey through life, as she navigates identity and freedom in an unknown city. Meanwhile, Cohabiter from Québec depicts several young people looking to share living quarters and explore the prospect of forging genuine connections amidst housing shortages. Alongside these films, additional screenings will take place at partner universities across Hong Kong.
