Freespace Dance 2025: HK and Asia-Pacific Dancers Unite

Why We Recommend it
Freespace Dance Festival features four cross-disciplinary dance performances by Hong Kong and Asia-Pacific dancers, workshops and sharing programmes, showcasing different perspectives on dance and choreography.
Description
Back with its third edition, this year’s Freespace Dance Festival centres on the theme Speculative Futures: Asia-Pacific Perspectives. Dancers from Hong Kong, Japan, Australia and Korea will deliver four cross-disciplinary dance performances, showcasing different perspectives on choreography. Notably, the cross-genre production Bridging Bridge, featuring TS Crew from Hong Kong and contact Gonzo from Osaka, is premiering its full-length version at the Festival after two years of development, reflecting on the complexity of interpersonal and intercultural relationships.
Other performances include No Time To Die: An Inert Liquid Assembly, a collaboration between Hong Kong visual artist Nadim Abbas and choreographer Chan Wai-lok exploring our experiences in the age of information saturation. Australian dance company Chunky Move will bring their latest work U>N>I>T>E>D, imagining a post-human world through machine mysticism. Jungle by Korea National Contemporary Dance Company (KNCDC) takes us back to a more primal place and time, to interrogate the timeless tensions in everyday life.
Freespace Dance 2025 will also host two sharing programmes. Artists Cheung Wai-yin, Chu Chin-ching, Keung Hoi-ling, Lau Pak-hong, Noon X domting and Tsang Wing-fai will share their latest creative concepts in FIRST Creation Platform. Exhibition and artist presentation Future Dictionary connects artists from Hong Kong and East Asia to share artistic terms in their mother tongues that are hard to translate, building cross-cultural dialogue while reflecting on the practice itself.
Various workshops will also be held. For example, artistic director of KNCDC, Kim Sungyong will hold Discovering Process Init on 4 December. Then, on 7 December, founder and executive director of the Hong Kong Culture and Sustainability Centre Louis Yu Kwok-lit will host a lecture and workshop titled Dance in the Times of Sustainability.
