From Indie Rock to Jazz: The Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s Cool Summer Festival

Why We Recommend it

Over the summer, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta (HKS) teams up with local and international musicians for an eclectic series of concerts.

Description

HKS’ summer concert season will kick off with The Amazing Filmphony, a concert in which HKS Artist Associate Leon Ko will be performing works from movies such as Perhaps Love, The Warlords and Monster Hunt, turning them into a theatrical symphony for singers and orchestra.

Presented by Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s 2013/2014 Associate Conductor Jason Lai,  Sounds Great! celebrates classical music in movies. The HKS will play excerpts of classical masterpieces ranging from Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries to John Williams’ Star Wars.

Local indie rock band Chochukmo collaborates with Hong Kong Sinfonietta musicians for a cross-disciplinary performance entitled Reflection. The 5-piece band will join forces with the strings and brass of the orchestra, bringing the audience an eccentric musical experience of tranquillity and turbulence, stillness and motion.

Closing the concert series will be internationally acclaimed jazz trio of Georg Breinschmid, Florian Willeitner and Antoni Donchev along with British conductor Roderick Dunk, who will be performing Romanian Folk Dances and more.
