Group Exhibition: Dreams of the Pantomime Horse at Gallery Exit

Why We Recommend it

Gallery Exit’s latest group exhibition features works by Hilarie Hon, Lau Sze-man and the duo Dorothy Wong Ka-chung and Benjamin Ryser themed on the pantomime horse.

Description

Taking its cue from the pantomime horse, a single body animated by multiple performers, Gallery Exit’s Dreams of the Pantomime Horse follows four artists navigating a world in flux as they listen, gather and bring back a constellation of stories across different art forms.

Among them is Hilarie Hon, who specialises in oil painting and practices a form of introspective observation, creating imagery that oscillates between the absurd and the childlike. Working primarily with painting, collage and video, Lau Sze-man draws on decontextualized fragments and the scriptural qualities of painting to find weight within moments shaped by contingency and lightness. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong–Swiss media and sound art duo Dorothy Wong Ka-chung and Benjamin Ryser focus on community-based research and creation, collecting stories from individuals and families to build urban and land-based collective memories.
