Gallic Cinepanorama: The Hong Kong French Film Festival 2018

Why We Recommend it

Hong Kong’s longest standing film festival is back with a programme packed with a variety of contemporary and classic French films, special guests, premieres, and a retrospective.

Description

Now in its 47th year, the Hong Kong French Film Festival (HKFFF) returns with a promising programme, screening 42 films, from romantic comedies to film noir and documentaries, in seven cinemas across Hong Kong.

The festival opens with The Trouble With You, a fun film in which the young widow of a celebrated local police officer learns that her husband was a crooked cop.

Other highlights include action/buddy film Belleville Cop, which stars celebrated The Intouchables actor Omar Sy, and is hailed a “a thinly veiled but hilarious tribute to Eddie Murphy”; the semi-documentary Inferno, a reconstruction of Henri-Georges Clouzot’s unfinished 1964 masterpiece starring Romy Schneider; and Out, an intimate, compelling documentary made exclusively from videos posted on the Internet by young non-straight and transsexual people.

The festival also honours the life and career of renowned film composers in a retrospective programme, which takes place in January 2019.
