Garden of Self and Being at Cattle Depot Artist Village

Why We Recommend it

Hidden within Cattle Depot Artist Village is a garden where visitors are invited to escape their daily life and enter a space to reflect on their sense of self and being as an individual.

Description

A collaborative project between Au Hoi-lam and Chang Hoi-wood, If there is a garden, where would I be? creates a garden-like space for viewers to stay in, explore and enjoy. Acting as both a physical space with tangible artifacts and a mental landscape connecting visitors with intangible elements, this garden allows visitors to be temporarily isolated from the struggles and realities of daily life, and open up their senses to recalibrate their self and identity in this space.

Au and Chang, exploring installation art and architecture respectively, merges their dispositions and aesthetic values in this garden. Au focuses on using handicraft to express ideas and emotions, thus embodying the relationships between the individual and the world; while Chang focuses on exploring the emotional power of a space through geometry, as well as the innermost sentiments evolved and encountered in such a space.

During the exhibition period, artist talks, guided tours, art and poetry workshops, and reading groups will be held within 1a space. All such activities will be conducted in Cantonese and need to be registered online in advance.
