Gareth Brown: Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest

Why We Recommend it
Gareth Brown’s dance photography in Hong Kong explores movement, stillness and space across over 40 sites.
Description
Bodies in Motion, Bodies at Rest sees Gareth Brown stage his first thematic solo exhibition in Hong Kong, bringing together over a decade of dance photography across more than 40 locations. Developed in collaboration with the Hong Kong Dance Alliance, the exhibition explores the tension between movement and stillness through site-specific works created with local dancers. It also features a new acrylic box installation by visual artist Liz Mok, presenting selected images as suspended encounters that extend the dialogue between choreography and space.
Originally from the United Kingdom and long based in Hong Kong, Brown has cultivated a sustained engagement with the city through his distinctive approach to dance photography. Working closely with performers, he treats the body as both subject and catalyst, using gesture and rhythm to reframe urban and rural landscapes alike. His images capture fleeting, in-between moments — where motion becomes memory and the city itself emerges as an active collaborator.
