Discover the Gemstones, Ruby & Sapphire: An Exhibition by L’ÉCOLE

Why We Recommend it

Explore the unseen, inner beauty of gemstones at L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific’s new exhibition Discover the Gemstones, Ruby & Sapphire, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Description

On a mission to share jewellery knowledge, appreciation and culture, L’ÉCOLE Asia Pacific school of jewellery arts presents a new immersive, educational exhibition: Discover the Gemstones, Ruby & Sapphire, supported by Van Cleef & Arpels.

The interactive exhibition offers an unexpected journey setting off from the unseen, inner beauty of gemstones. Expect an engaging and immersive discovery starting from geology and gemmology, where visitors can explore the many facets of jewellery arts from photography to science, mineralogy and more.

Featured at the exhibition are photomicrographic images taken by gemologist Billie Hughes which offer a closer look at the natural birthmarks, known as inclusions, of these minerals. Hughes’s images have captured the rainbow-like halos in Burmese rubies, frosty snowball-like crystals in Madagascar sapphires, starlike patterns glowing from within trapiche rubies and more.
The photo exhibition is accompanied by a display of rubies and sapphires in their natural geological form—as minerals—and in their faceted form as well as heritage and contemporary High Jewellery creations signed by renowned jewellery houses.
As part of the guided tours offered, L’ÉCOLE’s exhibition docents will be showing visitors how to search for geological clues within the gemstones with the naked eye, gemmology tools such as the loupe and the microscope, and how gemstones can be transformed by skilled stone-cutters, then set into beautiful pieces through jewellery and stone-setting craftsmanship.

Admission is free for the public, with guided tours in English, Cantonese and Mandarin available with online pre-registration.
