Years Later: Gagosian Reopens with Georg Baselitz Exhibition

Why We Recommend it

Gagosian reopens in Hong Kong with the exhibition Years Later, featuring new paintings and works on paper by pioneering neo-expressionist Georg Baselitz.

Description

After being temporarily closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Gagosian reopens in Hong Kong with the exhibition Years Later. Featuring new paintings and works on paper by pioneering neo-expressionist Georg Baselitz, this is his first solo exhibition with the gallery in Hong Kong.

Known for his unique upside-down paintings, Baselitz combines a vigorous and direct approach to art making with a sensitivity to art historical lineages. Over the past 50 years, he has further augmented his visual language with a variety of historical allusions, yet has consistently returned to the human figure as his central motif.

Years Later is focused on a set of thirteen large oil paintings that Baselitz made using a “contact-printing” technique related to the one applied in his series, “What if…” (2019) which was on display at Gagosian San Francisco earlier this year.
