H2 Returns to The Wanch: Hong Kong’s Longest Local Music Festival

Why We Recommend it

76 artists perform over eight days at the iconic live music venue — how many can you catch?

Description

Hong Kong’s iconic live music hub The Wanch is once again gearing up for its legendary week-long bash dedicated to all things loud and live. Since its debut in 2010, the annual event has become a cornerstone of the city’s vibrant underground scene, showcasing a fast-revolving door of local band across a flurry of half-hour sets. For many emerging acts, scoring a slot isn’t just a gig — it’s a rite of passage, and competition is fierce.

With 76 acts booked for 2026, the festival’s lineup is a melting pot of genres, though the unmistakable flavour remains rooted in rock — from original acts to cover bands, all eager to make their mark in H2 lore. Standards are as varied as styles, but reliable, road-tested picks from this year’s line-up include: reformed meat-themed power trio Meatgasm, female folk harmonies from The Sirens, earnest singer-songwriter Paul Roth, dreamy shoegazers Omnimori, Black Sabbath tribute Supernaut, slinky virtuosic instrumentals from The Black Lodge Cabaret, alt-rock stalwarts Other Theories, upbeat vintage rockabilly revivalists The Cashed-up Johnnies, and award-winning post-punk upstarts Houseplants.

This year’s edition kicks off on June 21 and runs through June 28, a bold choice considering no other venue would be crazy enough to start and close a festival on a Sunday. But then again, The Wanch has always been a little mad — and that’s exactly what makes it the heartbeat of Hong Kong’s live music scene.
