Hakka Hospitality in Photography at Koon Man Space

Why We Recommend it

Koon Man Space marks its one-year anniversary with Hak to Hak, a photography exhibition that explores Hakka hospitality through large-format portraits and documentary images of local villagers.

Description

Hak to Hak is a photography exhibition at Koon Man Space featuring works by photographer Bobby Sham, recent graduate Kylie Chan, and participants from a Kuk Po photography tour selected by So Hing-keung. The exhibition uses traditional large-format photography to capture the essence and daily lives of Hakka villagers, bringing their stories to life through intimate portraits and documentary images.

The exhibition focusses on the theme of Hakka hospitality, considering how a fluid society and digital technology affect community relations and interpersonal connections. Chan’s images document the bonds formed while interviewing villagers and learning traditional tea cake making, adding a personal narrative to the collection.

Opening on 24 May, with no reservation required, Hak to Hak runs until 30 June, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the warmth and stories of the village through photography.
