Hark New Christmas Songs About Hong Kong Grannies

Why We Recommend it
“Every Life Is A Song” and Tai Kwun bring unheard-of stories about the city’s senior members through Christmas songs written and performed by local young musicians.
Description
Christmas isn’t complete without its festive songs, but can these carols express more than just the joy of receiving presents from Santa?
Earlier this year, Hong Kong lyricist Chow Yu Fai and singer-songwriter Vicky Fung launched a social enterprise called Every Life Is A Song (“ELIAS”) which charts the history of the city. Co-presented by Tai Kwun, ELIAS has invited aspiring young musicians to celebrate the lives of local seniors through songs. These new compositions reveal the stories of the senior citizen’s lives—miserable or blissful, difficult or smooth, simple or complicated—to our city’s younger generations.
Gather around the Christmas Tree at the Parade Ground this Christmas as storyteller Helen Tam Yuk Ying, a well-known children’s television programme host, and the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and Voices tell the tales of Hong Kong’s seniors—a kaleidoscope of the city’s forgotten memories and histories.
