Her: Aka Chio’s Illustrations of Womanhood and Contemporary Female Identity
Why We Recommend it
This exhibit depicts surreal characters who represent diverging states, conditions and roles of women in contemporary society, while aiming to raise funds for a local women’s advocacy group.
Featuring twenty illustrations that address issues related to women’s rights and welfare in contemporary society, Aka Chio’s playful and curious characters serve as symbols for issues pertaining to gender and society.
Aka Chio was born in Macau and graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008 with an associate’s degree in design. She lives and works in Hong Kong as a singer and illustrator.
The exhibit will benefit the Hong Kong Federation of Women’s Centres, a grassroots organisation that has been promoting gender equality through services, education and advocacy since 1981.
