Polyphony In Resonance: HKBU MAVA Grad Show 2026

Why We Recommend it
HKBU MAVA graduates present a cross-disciplinary exhibition framing art as encounter, echoing Martin Buber’s I–You philosophy.
Description
Titled Polyphony In Resonance, the HKBU MAVA Grad Show 2026 showcases works by 32 graduating students across disciplines, from graphic design and photography to sound, print and installation. The exhibition foregrounds dialogue — between mediums, artists, artworks and audience — drawing on philosopher Martin Buber’s concept of the I–You encounter. Here, each work operates not as an isolated statement but as part of a relational field, where distinct voices remain autonomous yet deeply interconnected.
Despite varied approaches, recurring concerns emerge, spanning nature and technology, memory and futurity, revealing unexpected alignments across practices. More than a showcase of outcomes, the exhibition positions itself as an experiential space: one that invites viewers into moments of mutual recognition and exchange. In this shared terrain, meaning is not fixed but co-constructed, completing the polyphonic structure the exhibition proposes.
On 11 July, Winnie Wu Yanjing, lecturer of creative arts at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, will examine digital ethnography through studies on TV subtitling and live streaming in China. She highlights methods of observing and participating in online communities, and their applications across arts and media research. The talk runs from 14:30 to 15:30 (40-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute Q&A) at the Main Gallery, HKBU Kai Tak Campus. Free admission; registration required.
