Peng Xiuwen: HKCO Marks 95 Years of a Modern Master

Why We Recommend it
Conducted by Yan Huichang, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra honours prominent composer Peng Xiuwen’s 95th birthday anniversary, celebrating his lasting impact on Chinese orchestral music.
Description
Marking the 95th anniversary of Peng Xiuwen’s birth (1931–1996), the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) presents a tribute concert celebrating one of the most influential figures in modern Chinese orchestral music. A pioneering composer and conductor, Peng shaped the artistic language and global presence of the Chinese orchestra through both original works and masterful arrangements.
Under the baton of Yan Huichang, a close artistic associate who shared a deep mutual respect with Peng, the programme revisits key compositions that defined an era. HKCO will be joined by guest musicians from the China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra, such as lead percussionist Ma Li, and feature Zhang Chongxue as guest concertmaster and eco-erhu virtuoso. More than a retrospective, the concert reaffirms Peng’s enduring influence on contemporary orchestral practice and his role in bringing Chinese music to international audiences.
