Cine Fan Nov/Dec: Exploring 20th-Century European Films

Why We Recommend it
HKIFF Cine Fan presents a new set of thrilling programmes, including two collections of films by renowned filmmakers Wojciech Jerzy Has and Carl Theodor Dryer.
Description
The HKIFF Cine Fan is set for yet another set of exciting programmes for its November and December rotation.
The Existential Voyage of Wojciech Jerzy Has will show 10 films by the inventive Polish director, whose unique style draws from a diverse range of inspirations, creating imaginative and disorienting works of art. The films to be showed include one of Has’ most influential works, The Saragossa Manuscript, a study in frame story. One screening of The Noose features a seminar with HKIFF programmer Mimi Wong and film critic and scholar Derek Lam. Filmmaker Dunet Chan will lead a talk after one of the screenings of The Hourglass Sanatorium.
Seven restored films by the prominent Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dryer will also be featured. Among the films shown is The Passion of Joan of Arc, a landmark work critically acclaimed for its exploration of the close-up. Writer and critic Long Tin will join the experienced film researcher Lau Yam in delivering a seminar after one screening of Ordet. Film critic Grace Ng will lead a talk after one of the Vampyr screenings.
Alongside these two programmes, six other films will be shown including a restored cut of adventure fantasty The Fall by Tarsem Singh.
Movies will be screened across various cinemas in Hong Kong — including EMP Cinemas iSQUARE, Hong Kong Arts Centre Louis Koo Cinema and Premiere Elements, among others.
