Hollywood Myths and New Waves: Introducing Hip LA Artist Alex Israel

Why We Recommend it
Drawing on Los Angeles’ cinematic and luxuriant backdrops, Alex Israel invokes scenes that straddle reality and fantasy, playing with the concept of celebrities and the American dream.
Description
American artist Alex Israel has garnered a large following owing to his cool, simple aesthetic that appeals to the Instagram generation and which embodies surfer optimism.
In this show, which is his first in Hong Kong, Israel presents multimedia works related to his first feature-length film SPF- 18, a bittersweet teenage romantic comedy produced last year.
The exhibit also features an interactive sculpture hanging from the walls, Pelican, alongside a series of works out of fiberglass resin representing waves in a tableaux format recalling Hokusai’s famous woodblock print Under the Wave off Kanagawa.
