Hong Kong International Literary Festival Celebrates 25 Years

Why We Recommend it

The Hong Kong International Literary Festival marks its 25th anniversary with over 60 inspiring events featuring global authors and creative voices.

Description

The Hong Kong International Literary Festival (HKILF) celebrates its 25th anniversary from 1 to 8 March with an expanded citywide programme of more than 60 events across iconic venues such as the Central Library, Asia Society, Fringe Club, China Club and Soho House. This milestone edition brings together an extraordinary range of local and international voices such as 2023 Pulitzer Prize winner Hernán Diaz, author of historical novel Trust that discusses about money, power and intimacy; and Chinese writer Hu Anyan, whose I Deliver Parcels in Beijing offers a powerful portrait of working life in modern China.

On 5 March, the HKILF will also hold a talk (18:30–20:30) featuring four multidisciplinary speakers, moderated by writer Slavica Habjanovic. Architect, photographer and co-founder of signboard heritage conservation platform @streetsignhk, Kevin Mak explores the cultural memory embedded in the city’s vanishing neon signs through a photographic perspective; Lynn Yau (arts education charity Arts for Transforming Education and Communities CEO and Evolving Creative Mindsets author) shares walking and mapping for urban histories; filmmaker and writer Derek Ting reflects on cinema’s transnational energy; and author Alicia Sing maps trails with narrative posters.

Then, from 2 to 13 March, the Young Readers Festival returns to inspire the next generation, featuring international authors in the first week and local voices in the second.
