Groove Central: Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival

Why We Recommend it
Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival, a floor-shaking celebration of Jamaican musical traditions, lands in a heritage building.
Description
Every year, the groove fiends behind the Hong Kong International Reggae Ska Festival can be relied on to entice at least one legend from the heyday of Jamaican music to our shores. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this year the event welcomes Errol Dunkley, the honey-toned vocalist behind sun-kissed classic “OK Fred”, whose CV includes work with master producers Prince Buster and Coxsone Dodd. He’ll be backed on stage by Mexican rocksteady revivalists Travelers All Stars, who arrive off the critical success of last year’s XV Años de Reggae Gordo to also perform their own headline set. To set the tone, floor-shaking bass-centric bangers will be spun by the UK selector known as Mungo’s HiFi.
Loyal local representatives flying the three-stripe flag include Cantonese roots revivalist Mouse FX, the reliably party-starting The Red Stripes All Ska Orchestra, and the chance to check out new local reggae band Umoja Rootz.
The event starts at 17:30.
