Description

The University Museum and Art Gallery at HKU presents Clouds of Ink, Pools of Colour – a comprehensive spread of colourful, playful landscape paintings by Chinese American painter Hou Beiren. Painted in the splashed ink style, Hou’s panoramas boast luminescent swirls of colour and cascades of ink.

This exhibition includes recent donations of Hou Beiren’s paintings to the University Museum and Art Gallery.

Hou spent several formative years in Hong Kong in the early 1950s before departing for America. He now lives in Palo Alto, California, where at the age of 103 he continues to paint in his beloved Old Apricot Villa, his home and studio for over 50 years.
