Identita: The Story of Czech Graphic Design

Why We Recommend it

This November, discover Czech graphic design’s rich history through the exhibition Identita: The Story of Czech Graphic Design, with additional talks on typography and public spaces found in Czechia and Hong Kong.

Description

From now until 23 November, Identita: The Story of Czech Graphic Design brings to Hong Kong a captivating journey through a century of Czech graphic design, celebrating its blend of craftsmanship, precision and innovation. Curated by graphic designer Filip Blažek and design writer Linda Kudrnovská, the exhibition features iconic posters, books, logotypes, state symbols and audiovisual media artefacts, alongside the 60th anniversary edition of The Most Beautiful Czech Books of the Year 2024. Presented as part of the Year of Czech Design 2025, it also ties in with a documentary, TV series and a richly illustrated book, making it a comprehensive cultural experience.

Two thematic talks will complement the exhibition. The first, held on 8 November, Czech and Hong Kong Typography at a Glance, explores how traditional and modern type design reflect the distinct cultural narratives of both regions. Then, on 15 November, Graphic Design in Public Spaces, reveals how design shapes urban life and community identity in Czechia and Hong Kong through wayfinding, murals and public art. Both events offer fresh insights into the evolving role of graphic design across borders.
