International Gala of Stars: Hong Kong Ballet Celebrates 40 Years

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, Hong Kong Ballet puts on a star-studded show featuring the company’s founding members and artists, along with some of the world’s most talked-about dancers including Dorothée Gilbert, Tan Yuan Yuan and Matthew Golding.

The dazzling programme includes contemporary works, four special videos presenting a visual journey of the company’s history and a world premiere by the company’s newly named Choreographer-in-Residence, Hu Song Wei Ricky.
Founding members and artists of the Hong Kong Ballet will be joined by internationally-renowned dancers including Dorothée Gilbert (Paris Opera Ballet), Tan Yuan Yuan (San Francisco Ballet), Ako Kondo (Australian Ballet), Marcelo Gomes (American Ballet Theatre), Osiel Gouneo (Bavarian State Ballet), Vitor Luiz (San Francisco Ballet), and Matthew Golding (Guest Principal Dancer of Bavarian State Ballet and former Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet and Dutch National Ballet).
The two-hour programme comprises beloved productions: Swan Lake’s ethereal pas de deux with a full corps de ballet, the daring Diana and Actaeon Pas de Deux, Manon’s poignant pas de deux and a suite of vibrant dances from Artistic Director Septime Webre’s The Great Gatsby. Other highlights include the company’s debut of contemporary ballets by San Francisco Ballet’s Resident Choreographer Yuri Possokhov and internationally renowned choreographer Edwaard Liang.
