Guangzhou Collective Explores Community, Textile Art and Farming at CHAT

Why We Recommend it

Visitants to Lunar Factory showcases the collaborative efforts of the Guangzhou-based artist collective BOLOHO, highlighting their innovative approach to art and community engagement.

Description

As BOLOHO’s first solo exhibition at an institution in Hong Kong, Vistants to Lunar Factory culminates the collective’s six-month residency at CHAT, part of the Seed to Textile community programme. Drawing inspiration from overseas Chinese farms known as huaqiao nongchang, which were settled by ethnic Chinese from Southeast Asia who moved to China after the 1949 revolution, BOLOHO’s work reflects on the relationships between plant dispersal and human migration, fostering a dialogue about cultural development and emotional connections.

Through hands-on workshops, they engaged local students in nurturing plants and creating natural dyes, resulting in collaborative artworks and a video installation that invite visitors to reflect on the intricate ties between textiles and the environment. This event offers a unique opportunity to explore how art can bridge cultural landscapes and promote coexistence in our communities.
