Inventing Le Louvre: From Palace to Museum

Why We Recommend it
This is a thoughtfully-curated selection of beautiful relics from the world’s largest museum.
Description
Inventing le Louvre: From Palace to Museum over 800 Years aims to present the vitality that has characterised the Musee de Louvre since its beginnings. The works illustrate the diversity and richness of the museum’s collection, ranging from different periods of time within history.
From the origins of the very idea of a museum, born of the royal collections of Francois I and Louis XIV to modern times, showcased items are marked by renovations and profound changes – architectural, functional and museographical. Along the way, the exhibition explores the contributions of Napoleon I and the visionary ideas of the “Republics” and intellectual movements that followed.
This is an event organised by Le French May to mark the cultural institution’s 25th anniversary.
