Between 15 September and 5 October, the Italian Screens – New Italian Cinema Goes Abroad will premiere five of the best Italian contemporary movies at Hong Kong cinemas.
Kicking off the festival is Madly with an in-person post-screening talk with director Paolo Genovese on 15 September. The romantic comedy is the highest-grossing film in Italy this year.
The four other acclaimed Italian movies are The Great Ambition, a biopic of a legendary Italian political figure in the 1970s; The Time It Takes, an intimate story of a father and daughter, and their love for life, that has swept the domestic film awards in Italy; Outside, a highly anticipated movie about pioneering Italian writer Goliarda Sapienza that was in main competition at Cannes this year; and Diamonds, the most-watched film in Italy in 2024, which follows a group of middle-aged seamstresses.
In its 3rd edition, the Italian Screens is also part of the Autumn Festival ITALIA on Stage to celebrate the best of Italian culture, business, art and lifestyle in Hong Kong. Screenings will be held at Broadway Cinematheque and Premiere Elements.
