Jaffa Lam Experiments with Materials in Asteroid J-734

Why We Recommend it

Jaffa Lam’s Asteroid J-734 unfolds as a material-driven exploration of memory, identity and personal journey.

Description

Jaffa Lam’s Asteroid J-734 marks her third solo presentation with Axel Vervoodt and her second in its Hong Kong location since 2022. Combining new works across ceramics, textiles and metal, the exhibition reflects Lam’s ongoing engagement with material, community and storytelling. Developed following her residency in Longquan, the works trace a personal journey through memory, displacement and self-discovery.

The exhibition title draws on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic The Little Prince. Lam constructs a constellation of forms that move between the monumental and the intimate. Stars emerge as a recurring motif in works like “Dark (Civil),” evoking both shared human experience and individual introspection. Deeply personal and contemplative, Asteroid J-734 reintroduces Lam’s evolving practice through unexpected material pairings and playful assemblages, inviting viewers into an exploration of belonging, loss and the search for meaning.
