Description
Transcribing Wisdom: Jao Tsung-I’s Heart Sutra Calligraphy and the Wisdom Path commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Wisdom Path’s 37 timber pillars monument on Lantau Island, showcasing a curated selection of Jao Tsung-I’s Heart Sutra calligraphy in various scripts from museum and private collections. The exhibition features the original calligraphy used for the Wisdom Path at the University Museum and Art Gallery of The University of Hong Kong, along with Jao’s paintings related to the theme.
Jao (1917–2018), a revered Chinese literary scholar and artist inspired by Buddhist philosophy and Indian studies, created this monumental calligraphy during the 2001 Asia financial crisis to bring inner peace to the public. His work was used for the path’s inscriptions and the project was completed in May 2005.
The exhibition runs in two phases: the first from 4 October to 14 December 2025, while the second will be held from 16 December 2025 to 1 March 2026 at the Sun Museum.
