Jazz Up Series: “Departure” by Young Musicians Teriver Cheung and Chok Kerong

Why We Recommend it
Hong Kong Jazz guitarist Teriver Cheung joins forces with Singaporean composer and keyboardist Chok Kerong to perform their latest commissioned work “Departure”, together with an 11-member chamber jazz ensemble.
Description
“Departure” blends jazz with classical music. The concert features a jazz organ trio along with a four-piece brass/woodwind section and a string quartet, making up a unique 11-piece chamber jazz ensemble.
Teriver Cheung and Chok Kerong represent a new generation of jazz artists making their mark on the international stage. The duo has been regularly working together for the past few years.
The idea for “Departure”, composed by Cheung, came in 2015 when he was working on a piece named “Morning before Departure”, which conveys the dreamy feeling before sunrise at the airport, waiting alone for a departing flight.
