Why We Recommend it

This new initiative showcases local movies handpicked by up-and-coming Hong Kong filmmakers. The first movie that will be shown is Johnnie To’s 2004 action drama Throw Down.

Description

Co-presented by the Hong Kong Arts Centre and One Cool Film Production Limited, ‘Great Hong Kong Movies’ is a new, ongoing film programme showcasing both classics and anticipated works by emerging Hong Kong filmmakers.

The programme is curated by emerging local filmmakers and industry workers on and behind the screen, and aims to inspire younger generations to experience and appreciate Hong Kong cinema.

‘Great Hong Kong Movies’ kicks off with Johnnie To’s Throw Down (2004), a visually arresting action drama starring Louis Koo and Tony Leung ka-fai. The film tells the story of a former Judo champion-turned-alcoholic gambler/pub owner, who is given the chance to redeem himself after he befriends a competitor and an aspiring singer.
