Reimagined Narratives: Four Perspectives of Cultural Motifs

Why We Recommend it

Karin Weber Gallery’s Reimagined Narratives showcases four Hong Kong artists reinterpreting cultural motifs and Japanese influences through fresh visual stories.

Description

Karin Weber Gallery’s Reimagined Narratives explores how four acclaimed local artists re-envision familiar myths, motifs and stories through personal and cultural lenses. Drawing inspiration from Japan’s rich visual traditions, the exhibition reveals the enduring dialogue between past and present, art and narrative.

Joey Leung Ka-yin transforms her bookshelf installation into a reflection of Japanese culture and language, Frank Tang Kai-yiu reimagines the emotional symbolism of manga series Attack on Titan’s forest setting, Avery Lau Hong-lam interweaves celestial and earthly cycles through divine iconography and Carmen Ng plays with colour and form to evoke icons from celebrated animator Hayao Miyazaki’s films, Doraemon and Super Mario. Together, their works celebrate reinterpretation as both homage and reinvention, bridging pop culture, mythology and spirituality.
