Kawaii Art: Osamu Watanabe’s Sweet Summer

Why We Recommend it

This exhibit showcases the quirky works of pioneering artist Osamu Watanabe, who has pushed the aesthetics of Japanese cuteness.

Description

Watanabe’s first solo exhibit includes over twenty artworks across three series: Oriental Dream, European Fantasy, and Life. Know as the “Prince of Sweets”, Watanabe creates art using a cream pipe, a practice known as “resin cream art”.

As his mother was a teacher at a confectionery school, much of his inspiration is drawn from saccharine childhood memories.
