How does film shape our understanding of reality? See Hong Kong artist KChung’s new multimedia installation at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, questioning the medium’s role in time and future.
Description
KChung (Chau Kin-chung), a Hong Kong-based music composer, sound designer and media artist, presents <Ab__: Reel-Real-Will> at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, a multimedia installation that examines the complex relationship between film and reality, prompting viewers to consider whether film merely reflects reality or actively shapes it.
Using 1970s 8mm film projectors and ultrasonic directional speakers, KChung reinterprets past ideas and explores the tension between the absurdity of reality and the brutality of fiction. The Latin prefix “Ab-,” signifying a break from established norms, underscores the exhibition’s challenge to traditional notions of time and space. Audiences are invited to explore their own perspectives and think about how sound, visuals, and time interact in this immersive experience.
