Kids’ Film Festival Ignites Creativity and Imagination

Why We Recommend it

The ninth Hong Kong International Kids’ Film Festival showcases imaginative films from around the world, engaging post-screening talks and interactive workshops.

Description

From 19 July to 10 August, the Hong Kong International Kids’ Film Festival (KIFF) returns for its ninth edition. This year’s festival ambassador is eminent actress Jo Koo, winner of Best Supporting Actress at the 43rd Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in the film, Papa.

Organised by the local non-profit organisation 3Space and Golden Scene Cinema, KIFF features imaginative films from Asia, Europe, Africa and North America. Space Cadet is a dialogue-free film that follows a lonely robot while the astronaut he raised faces danger in space. Prank is about a prank gone wrong that drags two boys into a wild adventure. The Perks of Being Wild shows three kids and a dog exploring empty homes and learning about growing up. Babe tells the classic story of a piglet who surprises everyone by learning to herd sheep. These films offer local children and teenagers fun and meaningful global stories. Each screening will feature a 15-minute introduction in Cantonese.

Adding depth to the festival experience, KIFF will also host post-screening conversations with prominent creators from Hong Kong’s film and television industries such as Benson Koo (The Perks of Being Wild), Adam Wong (The Way We Dance) and Mabel Cheung (To My Nineteen-Year-Old Self and An Autumn’s Tale). The Junior Staff Workshop empowers children to step into real cinema roles, where they will master different skills such as learning to become cinema stewards and editing apprentices in an editing internship role – fostering creativity, teamwork and a sense of responsibility through hands-on, fun learning experiences.
