Third Run Of L’Amour Immortel By Hong Kong Dance Company
Why We Recommend it
Qing Dynasty Pu Songling ghostwriter’s classic is adapted into Hong Kong Dance Company’s award-winning grand dance drama L’Amour Immortel, depicting the doomed romance between an alluring ghost and an honest scholar.
Nie Xiaoqian, an alluring ghost, is enslaved by a sinister demon and forced to prey on humans. When she meets and falls head-overheels in love with the honest and good-natured Ning Caichen, she becomes determined to save him from evil forces, even at the cost of her own afterlife.
The timeless classic captures the essence of the most beautiful human values in a poignant ghost story that will touch many hearts in this broken world. Previously adapted into the popular film A Chinese Ghost Story in the 1980s, this stage rendition is a showcase of the dancers’ physical expression. It reaped three Hong Kong Dance Awards in 2016, including Outstanding Performance by a Female Dancer, Outstanding Performance by a Male Dancer, as well as Outstanding Set Design for Dance.
Please note that the audio description of the production on 8 Dec 2019 is in Cantonese. L’Amour Immortel is companioned by a free exhibition from 27 Nov to 2 Dec 2019 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Foyer.
