Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui Return to the Silver Screen

Why We Recommend it

Following the success of the first retrospective dedicated to two of Hong Kong’s biggest stars, Leslie Cheung and Anita Mui, the Hong Kong Film Archive organises seven additional screenings of some of the duo’s best movies.

Description

Back in the 80s and 90s, Leslie Cheung (1956 – 2003) and Anita Mui (1963 – 2003) ruled Hong Kong’s music, cinema and television scene. The late stars have left a legacy of enduring films; every single screening of the Hong Kong Film Archive’s first retrospective dedicated to the duo, entitled When Leslie Met Anita, was a sell-out success.

Thanks to the enthusiastic response from audiences, the Archive will extend the programme to September and October, the respective birth months of the two stars. Seven classic films covering different genres will be screened, including the tragic love story Rouge (1988), which is regarded as the duo’s best film together; and the gender-bending romcoms He’s a Woman, She’s the Man (1994) and Who’s the Woman, Who’s the Man (1996).

Please note that all films are in Cantonese. “Au Revoir, Mon Amour” is without subtitles, while the other films are screened with Chinese and English subtitles.
