Kingsley Ng’s Light Sanctuary

Why We Recommend it

A light installation at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre transforms a theatre into a calm urban retreat for visitors seeking rest and mindfulness.

Description

The East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) hosts Lullabies, an immersive light installation by artist Kingsley Ng and Videotage. The 500-seat theatre at EKCC becomes a cosmic space of light and shadow where visitors recline on stage surrounded by softly glowing tungsten bulbs.

Light effects synchronise with MTR trains passing outside, merging the rhythms of city life with artistic expression. More than 100 pillows display lullabies and restful thoughts collected from people aged five to 96, adding a personal and reflective element.

Lunchtime sessions from Wednesday to Sunday offer a quiet space for local workers to rest. Evening sessions include a tea corner with wellness teas from Hong Kong Baptist University’s School of Chinese Medicine, enhancing the soothing atmosphere.

Throughout June and July, public workshops on mindfulness, yoga, storytelling and poetry take place within the installation at EKCC, inviting visitors to explore rest and well-being in an artistic setting.

Lullabies runs from 24 May to 31 July.
