Lo Pan Festival Honours Craft and Community

Why We Recommend it
The traditional Lo Pan Festival honours the revered patron of builders through ritual offerings, lion dances and a ceremony to commemorate deceased workers.
Description
This year, the Lo Pan Festival is feted on 27 July (the 13th day of the sixth lunar month) and honours Lo Pan, the legendary patron of builders and carpenters. The celebrations feature rituals such as a ceremony to enshrine the souls of deceased workers and lion dances, alongside cultural performances including traditional Cantonese opera, puppet shows and music.
The management association, Hong Kong Lo Pan Kwong Yuet Tong, organises celebrations at the historic Lo Pan Temple in Kennedy Town — one of only two in the world alongside Penang in Malaysia — on both the evening before and actual day of the festival. This blend of ritual, culture and community makes the Lo Pan Festival a unique celebration of craftsmanship and fraternity.
