Lo Pan Festival: Honouring Traditions

Why We Recommend it

The Lo Pan Festival in Kennedy Town honours the legendary patron of builders through ritual offerings, lion dances and a ceremony to commemorate deceased workers.

Description

This year, the Lo Pan Festival is observed on 7 July (the 13th day of the sixth lunar month) and honours Lo Pan, the legendary patron of builders and carpenters. The celebrations feature meaningful rituals such as a ceremony to enshrine the souls of deceased workers and lion dances, alongside cultural performances including traditional Cantonese opera, puppet shows and music.

The management association, Hong Kong Lo Pan Kwong Yuet Tong, organises a one-and-a-half-day celebration at the historic Lo Pan Temple in Kennedy Town — one of only two in the world — on both the evening before and actual day of the festival. This blend of ritual, culture and community service makes the Lo Pan Festival a unique celebration of craftsmanship and community spirit.
