M+ Turns Five with Herzog & de Meuron Iconic Donated Exhibition

Why We Recommend it
M+ marks its fifth anniversary with Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus, a showcase of the world-renowned firm’s donated architectural materials and China projects.
Description
Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus celebrates M+’s fifth anniversary and the second phase of a major donation from the architectural firm behind the museum’s building. The exhibition highlights the firm’s long engagement with China’s urban transformation, tracing its evolving vision across ten built and unbuilt projects from 2002 to 2021, including Hong Kong’s M+ (2012–2021) and Tai Kwun (2006–2018), as well as Beijing’s National Stadium (2002–2008).
Assembling more than 200 donated process materials — models, drawings, prototypes, sketches and archival items — the show offers a closer look at the ideas and working methods that shape Herzog & de Meuron’s architecture, as well as the role of site, material and context. Inspired by the Kabinett in Basel, the display uses wooden vitrines designed for the firm’s archival holdings.
