MDLSX: An Explosive Gender-blurring Solo Performance

Why We Recommend it

Hailed a ‘post-punk rollercoaster ride’, MDLSX is a solo show that challenges the audience to re-imagine individual identity beyond the definitions of binary gender.

Description

When identity and gender definitions are stripped away, who do you see?

This partly autobiographical monologue, performed by acclaimed Italian actress Silvia Calderoni, peels away layers of scientific and historical convention to think about people beyond labels such as transgender, cisgender and gender fluid.

Combining her own androgynous physicality with texts based on personal, researched and fictional experience, projected home movies, interviews and a powerful live soundtrack, Calderoni presents a delicately balanced depiction of the violence, bewilderment and emotional unravelling of an individual trapped in an imposed identity, and a journey towards authenticity and self-acceptance.

Italian theatre company Motus’ MDLSX is performed as a part of the Hong Kong International Black Box Festival, a theatre festival curated and presented by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre and West Kowloon Cultural District.

MDLSX is presented in Italian with Chinese and English subtitles.
