Memory Smuggler: Layers of Time and Memory at To Art House

Why We Recommend it

Memory Smuggler brings together four Hong Kong artists to reflect on memory and place through diverse media, with a special performance and studio open day on 24 May.

Description

Memory Smuggler, running until 26 July, is the inaugural exhibition of To Art House in Fo Tan. Four Hong Kong artists — Natalie Chu Lok-ting, Ho Siu-kee, Jay Lau Ka-chun, and Li Nin — collaborated to create works that engage memory through handmade artefacts, natural elements and digital objects.

Chu’s cement-based installations evoke Fo Tan’s urban wilderness, while Ho’s “Remnants of Mountain-Making” sculptures explore mountains as cultural symbols. Lau blends digital imagery with concrete to reflect Hong Kong’s transformations, and Li uses mixed media to document memory and personal mythology.

On 24 May, Ho will perform “Lament of the Lofty Crag” across To Art House’s corridors and balconies, reenacting frozen scenes and engaging with the audience. The performance runs from 15:00 to 15:30, with artist studios open from 14:00 to 17:00, offering views of Fo Tan and the surrounding mountains.

Artists talks and forums will be announced on the To Art House website. Venue details will be provided upon confirmed registration. Attendance is by RSVP only as all events are private.
