MICK: Exploring Freedom and Wealth in Graffiti Art

Description

Currently on display at Parallel Space from 23 January to 16 February 2025, $$ WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU is MICK’s first solo exhibition following a successful showcase event in September 2024. With over two decades of graffiti experience, MICK has developed a distinctive style that features his signature tag, combining the Chinese characters of “freedom” (自由) with the dollar sign ($$). This provocative pairing encourages dialogue about the often ironic relationship between wealth and autonomy. MICK’s journey has not been without controversy; he faced criticism and legal issues, including an arrest during his graffiti process, which has sparked discussions about the implications of street art in society.

The exhibition showcases a variety of new works across different mediums, including fabric frames and ready-made objects. MICK also incorporates playful animal characters into his pieces, adding a whimsical element to his serious themes. Visitors can expect an engaging display that reflects MICK’s artistic journey and his commitment to using art as a platform for social commentary.
