Möbius Loop: Artist Yvonne Feng Explores Body and Agency

Why We Recommend it
Visual artist Yvonne Feng’s debut solo show in Hong Kong, Möbius Loop, probes intricate ties between body and space, unveiling vulnerability, control and memory through painted gestures and theatrical installation.
Description
Möbius Loop marks visual artist Yvonne Feng’s debut solo exhibition in Hong Kong following her recent relocation to the city. The show presents works from her ongoing painting series Docile Bodies, which explores the complex relationship between the body and its environment through expressive paintings and theatrical suspended latex installations. Through bodily symbolism, pandemic-inflected motifs and fluid painterly gestures, Feng probes embodied memory and the tension between control and agency.
Presented in HART Haus’ ground-floor gallery, highlights like “Möbius Loop” and “Frantic Frenzy” blur boundaries between interior and exterior through street-facing windows and shifting spaces. The grid appears as sketching worksheets and tiled surfaces, extending onto gallery walls to evoke domestic, medical and transitional settings. Suspended latex paintings act as partitions, veiling and exposing the body, their textured surfaces evoking flesh marked by memory. This immersive installation invites reflection on the ongoing negotiation of agency and control within the looping body-space relationship.
Feng, born in Guangdong and raised in the United Kingdom, is a Hong Kong-based artist with a masters degree in painting from the Royal College of Art and a practice-led doctorate in fine art from the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She also holds educational positions in London, namely as a senior lecturer in fine art painting at the University of Brighton and associate lecturer at Camberwell College of Arts, London. Her art has been exhibited internationally like APT Gallery, London and The Salon by NADA & The Community with Current Plans, Paris; as well as various private collections worldwide.
