MOViE MOViE anifest 2025 Sparks Animation Magic

Description

MOViE MOViE’s annual summer celebration, anifest, makes a highly anticipated return from 22 August to 11 September. The festival continues its collaboration with the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival, celebrating ten diverse animation programmes that feature acclaimed international masterpieces alongside local creations.

The festival opens with Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, an emotionally rich film about the daughter of a Belgian diplomat growing up in Japan, which won the Audience Award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. It closes with a stunning 4K restoration of Mamoru Oshii’s timeless classic Angel’s Egg, which premiered at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

Alongside these films, highlights include the hypnotic Canadian documentary Endless Cookie that masterfully weaves themes of colonial history and racial identity into everyday moments and the Hong Kong premiere of director Takeshi Koike’s Lupin The Third The Movie: The Immortal Bloodline, where master thief Lupin III ventures to uncover the truth behind a relentless pursuit targeting theme alongside his trusted partners Daisuke Jigen, Goemon Ishikawa and Fujiko Mine. The original short film version of the Hong Kong animated feature Animated World, which received rave reviews at Annecy, will be screened during a special sharing session with producer-scriptwriter Polly Yeung and art director Step C.

The films will be shown at two MOViE MOViE and Broadway Circuit cinemas across Hong Kong – including MOViE MOViE Cityplaza (Taikoo Shing), MOViE MOViE Pacific Place (Admiralty), Broadway Cinematheque (Yau Ma Tei), Gala Cinema Langham Place (Mong Kok) and Premiere Elements (West Kowloon).
