Spotlight on Kirsten Dunst and Andy Warhol at M+ Cinema

Why We Recommend it
The M+ Cinema Summer Edition spotlights Hollywood classics from Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg alongside Andy Warhol’s experimental “slow cinema.”
Description
As the city simultaneously slows down and heats up, M+ Cinema presents a summer season of screenings that offers far more than a cooling escape, with an eclectic mix of classic crowd pleasers, modern classics and seminal experimental works.
American actress Kirsten Dunst receives the spotlight treatment, with the Stair in the Dark—Big Leap Forward! mini-retospective highlighting mid-career hits Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Virgin Suicides (1999) and Melancholia (2011). Elsewhere, the M+ Cinema Summer Edition 2026 revives arguably the most iconic movies produced by two of Hollywood’s best-known living directors: Steven Spielberg’s Jaws (1975) and Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull (1980).
As an arthouse cinema, there’s naturally edgier fare to discover. For ardent cinephiles, the highlight will surely be the chance to doze through Andy Warhol’s five-hour Sleep (1963), the “slow cinema” experiment credited as the inspiration for M+’s ongoing exhibition Dial-A-Poem Hong Kong. The Art at the Stair segment will also present the American pop artist’s Screen Tests (1963–1966), a series of soundless, candid black-and-white close-ups of celebrities including Marcel Duchamp, Salvador Dalí and Bob Dylan.
Screen Tests will be presented over continuous free screenings at the Grand Stair. Audiences are invited to bring along a sleeping bag and doze through special weekend screenings of Sleep, dozing along John Giorno, taking place from 16:00–21:30 on 18 September and 25 September, and 2 October.
