Muted Hums: Uncovering Myriad Ways of Being

Why We Recommend it
In Muted Hums, nine artists uncover the fluid and myriad ways our we exist in and respond to the world, magnifying and examining our overlooked feelings and ways of being.
Description
The group exhibition Muted Hums, curated by Celia Ho, brings nine artists from Hong Kong and abroad into conversation — uncovering the fluid and myriad ways our we exist in and respond to the world. Each artist focuses on a specific aspect of living, their works coalescing to provide a map of our shifting and at times conflicting selves, for viewers to physically walk through. With the magnification of our overlooked feelings and ways of being, viewers can linger in and confront these neglected facets of our inner lives.
Among the featured artists is Oscar Chan Yik-long, who begins the exhibition with his commissioned ink work, using monsters and beasts to explore the fears and instabilities in and of life. His works are followed by those by Özlem Altin, who portrays the depth and intensity of emotions through abstract photomontages and paintwork. Lena Bùi works on unseen life forces in her double-layered paintings, thinking about the world in which we live beyond the tangible physical realm. The exhibition closes out with Saodat Ismailova’s film, drawing on Uzbek mystical belief to show footage of Central Asia from 2004 to 2022, investigating our connections with ancestors through this archive of personal and collective memories unfolded in a non-linear narrative.
The opening reception will be hosted on 13 December, from 15:00 to 18:00.
Complementing the exhibition at Para Site, curator Ho will lead a Cantonese guided tour on 17 January at 15:30. Free and open to all; no RSVP required.
In February, there are a series of programmes including a free artists’ conversation between Bùi and Ling (7 February) and a sound journey with Kawa Wong (21 February, details to be released soon). Registration required.
